DNS Lookup

Tool DNS Lookup

Check the DNS records of a domain

Pick the record type and the DNS server to ask. Choose "All servers" to compare the answers side by side, which is useful for checking whether a change has spread.

About the DNS Lookup

The Domain Name System (DNS) turns names such as example.com into the addresses computers use. A DNS lookup shows the records stored for a name: A and AAAA records hold its IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, CNAME records point it to another name, MX records name the servers that receive its email, NS records list its name servers, and TXT records carry text such as SPF and domain verification codes.

You can choose which public DNS resolver answers the query, including Google Public DNS, Cloudflare, Quad9, OpenDNS and AdGuard, or ask all of them at once to compare their answers. Enter an IP address to run a reverse lookup and see the host name (PTR record) behind it.

Frequently asked questions

Enter the domain, choose a record type or "All common records", pick a DNS server and press Look Up. The results list each record with its name, type, time to live (TTL) and value.

Each resolver keeps a copy of a record until its TTL expires. After a change, some servers can still hold the old value for a while. Large services may also answer differently by location on purpose.

Choose MX as the record type. Each result shows a priority number and a mail server; the lowest number is tried first.
